Want to put a ripped DVD into a single file...

I use dvdecrypter and I want to somehow have a single file that I can click on to play the movie after it's done ripping. Does such a thing exist?

every time I try to rip in .iso it shows up as multiple .ioo files. These files are not recognized by any program nor opened by fairuse.

Huh? You need to open the .iso in fairuse. Fairuse should recognize the video and allow you to convert to avi. When you get to the second step to open the dvd you should be able to browse for your .iso file.

Here is a tutorial, for step 2 you need to point to your .iso file.

but most of the discs are copy protected right?
Ok, i'll take a step back.
First use DVD decrypter in iso read mode right?
But that rips it to about 12 .ioo files. I don't understand this.

You can use avi.net to convert to an avi file, no need to rip it to iso. This is what I've been using with good success. You can let avi.net use the default settings or you can customize the settings to whatever you prefer.

First, rip with DVDFab HD Decrypter into ISO format (DVD Decrypter is no longer developed and doesn't deal with newer copy protections). If you install "Alcohol 52%" (freeware), all you gotta do is right click that ISO file and select "mount image", and your DVD player should open and play away. Later, you can right click the virtual drive to unmount the iso and delete if you like.

If you want a file to keep that you won't delete soon, open that iso with Fairuse Wizard and convert to avi or ogm (I am partial to ogm, which uses ogg instead of mp3 for sound, b/c sound bitrate can be set very low like to to 32 kbps but still give excellent quality).

Not sure how you are using DVD decrypter but when I rip to .iso I get one file. So make sure you are doing that correctly. Like stated above you can also use DVD fab to rip to iso also and there are other programs that allow you to encode directly from your DVD skipping one step, Fairuse also does this. So you don't actually have to create an iso you can encode directly from your DVD. I just thought you had everything in iso form already.

I believe you are extracting the files in IFO mode? If so, go to Tools -> Options -> IFO Mode
Under File Splitting, choose none. You will get one big VOB file (if that's what you are looking for).

I use MeGUI/AviSynth to create x264/aac-encoded mp4 files so I extract using IFO mode. Other folks (such as those that use Fair Use Wizard) rip ISOs.

Edit: Reread the thread and I guess you aren't extracting in IFO mode.

So if you need to use DVD decrypter set the mode to ISO read and save the ISO to your hard drive. You should only get one large file from here, more than likely 4GB or more. From here you can open Fairuse Wizard and compress the ISO into an avi if you like. The steps to use Fairuse are un the link above. Hope this makes some sense.

DVD Decrypter will split the .iso into .io1, .io2 etc when the file system (probably FAT16 or FAT32, can't remember) cannot support one contiguous file. If that's the case, there should also be a .mds file created, which contains the info needed to join the segments if you were to, say, burn them using ImgBurn.

okay I got it to work. Now, is there any way I can convert an ISO to a high res video (like 1280x800 or something) to watch on the computer?

The iso contains the data exactly as it exists on the disc so it doesn't need to be converted any higher. What you want to do is compress it into an avi or something so you can use a media player.. just scroll up and take the other posters' advice. Personally, I just use VLC media player which can play iso's so I just rip to iso, then open the iso in VLC and watch it like that. Plain and simple.

what if I have some dvd files already ripped (vide_ts folder with vobs, ifos, etc.) and I want to make an iso of them, so I can use FairUse to encode to mp4?

ImgBurn.

why the need for a single file?

its an odd request.
windvd/powerdvd or even media player classic can read the video_ts folder and play the dvd off the drive as if its a disc, open as folder or whatever in the open options.
if you want to reencode aka transcode, then its a lot of work to degrade the image and lose the special features/menus.. use handbrake or soemthing. generally not worth the bother. leave the video_ts directory on your drive and its dandy.
