for what it's worth, you can join the Arena Commander Sim straight from the menu.. don't have to actually go through the motions of walking up the ladder, etc.

The game is not going to be free to play, so it doesn't have pay to win where the free players have to deal with extra grind.

A game with a competitive aspect to it that allows someone to pay money to get an advantage, get items early, or get extra items, is pay to win in my book.

No, you're a sorry excuse for a troll. Half the crap you says makes no sense or is just plain wrong, the other is simple Troll 101. We get it, you have an irrational hatred for a game, despite it not being out yet. Complaining about size of the most graphically advanced alpha is supremely amusing. Silly troll is silly.

Just because you don't agree doesn't mean I'm trolling. Looks like you've had a heaping helping of your own hateraide today though. More power to you. When I post about how I don't like something, I'm in the wrong. But when you reply telling me all about how you don't like that I don't like what you like, then I'm still in the wrong. Sounds like you're butthurt, buddy.

Well I found that you have to put the code on that particular page. There are no links from your own account after you sign up.

I will say this thread got me to play SC for the first time.

Most excellent! :awe: That was my intention.

Meanwhile, look at all the butthurt haters telling me that they don't like that I don't like what they like. LOOOOOL

It's been said over and over again, ships that you can buy on the site for $X is only during the pre-release period, to generate additional funding. The ships are "rewards" for donating money to the game. When the game launches you won't see these ships for sale for real money, they'll be acquired in-game like you would expect.

The game is not going to be free to play, so it doesn't have pay to win where the free players have to deal with extra grind.

But you get free lifetime insurance on those ships so those who bought the ships for real world money don't have to LOSE THEM FOREVER like everyone else who comes along. They don't have to work nearly as hard to earn the money to buy another ship after they lose theirs like everyone else.

That is pay to win by the very definition of the phrase.

The devs have stated anyone can purchase insurance for their ships at a marginal cost so again LTI offer a small benefit for backing the development

It's still pay to win. Each time someone loses their ship and they have to buy insurance again, the margin between pay-to-win kickstarter donators and the rest of the gaming community grows and grows.

LTI isn't even offered any more. It was an early backer benefit.. and a very modest one at that. Christ there is a lot of gnashing of teeth in this thread already.

BTW.. insurance is per time period, not per ship loss. You pay in 6 month increments.

Pay to win what? What have they won?

It doesn't matter if there is no winning the game. Anything that makes the game easier, gives an advantage, or removes grinding through real money payment is a pay to win item.
