I've just built my first PC, which was an extreamly enjoyable experience(see sig). Trouble is now i've built it i've become alittle bored and wouldn't mind trying to clock my 800Mb to 1G. I know how to do it (thanks to this forum), but i need a couple of questions answered before i fry my T'bird.

1. Currently i have a Coolermaster Heatsink Model DP5-5G11, which is designed for T'birds up to 850? Is it safe to go above 850 or will i need to invest in another Heatsink?

2. Also i have a KT7. Currently the CPU temp from the bios says between 40-43c, but Hardware Monitor says 29c, which is the most accurate? (both idle.)

I would suggest a better heatsink and fan. I've got an alpha on my t-bird 800.
lotsa people have had heat being misreported lately.. not me, I just accidently fried my thermistor the first 2 seconds my machine was on. (what a thrill!) I know cooling is not an issue with my pal tho.
you probably wont hit 1Ghz unless you have supercooling. I can boot fine at 1Ghz, but there are a few hiccups. 950 is a rock for me.

why do we even need all of this speed?
I'd say the most anyone needed would be a PII 450

Thanks for the advice.

I agree with your comment that we should be happy with 550Mhz. It was all the rage a year ago (how time flies). In a few month's we won't be satisfied with 1.2Gb.
At this rate i'll have to upgrade every six months. (not on your life)

is there a limit?????
