want to output music from computer to stereo in next room

I would like to play my computer's (pentium II win95)mp3s on my home stereo (to use its speakers that are wired throughout the house). The stereo is located in an adjacent room, so maybe 30'-40' of cable is required to reach it. I have a basic soundcard, but would upgrade to another one if necessary.
I researched the product 'stereolink' (hardware - www.stereolink.com) which would output on wire with RCA jacks that could be joined together up to 40' in length between the computer and the stereo, but it does not operate with win95 (I'm stuck with win95 for certain software I have to use).
Does anyone have a suggestion? I'm not an audiophile, but would appreciate decent results, and I'm not sure if a soundcard will deliver a signal that distance.

welp, you dont need anything special. Just goto your local Radio Shack and get a Y-splitter (headphone style to RCA, male to males), a dual coupler (or 2 single couplers) and your 40feet of rca cable and link it together. That will let you go directly from your soundcard to your speakers in the other room. if you wanna split the signal, i suggest doing it at the source (soundcard) with a simple headphone splitter 1-male to 2-females.
piece of cheese cake. you shoulndt require any more hardware than what you have

as for this "sterolink" what the hell is it? software or hardware? whatever it is, it sounds like something you dont need

Thanks Wingznut PEZ. That does look cool! I don't have any flourescent light fixtures nearby, and hopefully nothing else that will interfere with the RF signal. I hope the signal is close to one that would run through a hard wire setup.

i did the extension thing, and just drilled a hole in the wall. in the living room it comes out of a wall plate if i was super cool i'd put one on my room side of it. maybe i will. 40' is a lot, i assume you're not making holes?

I can punch a hole right through the drywall, because my stereo system is in a closet, so you wouldn't notice it. I am concerned about the 30-40' and signal loss though.
thanks.
