I have ordered Panaflo fans before and i want the L1a or 12L. Currently newegg only has the 12M (so it is medium speed). (I want to order it from newegg because SVC is out of the other peice of equipment i want and i dont feel like waiting). If i get this fan technically if i lower the fan speed enough on a fan controller, couldi get it to essentially turn into a 12L or will something else be a factor in noise and CFM.

Well SVC carries the fans (12L) which i have now that is extremely quiet. however they aren't carrying my fan controller which they said is currently out of stock. So i looked around and Newegg is suddenly carrying everything they are :) :) :) :) :) so basically what i am saying is i only want to order 1 big order from 1 place. Not a whole sh!t load of small orders from different places.

Edit: Thanks for the link though!

According to this datasheet for both 12L and 12M, http://industrial.panasonic.com/www-data/pdf/AJA1000/AJA1000CE3.pdf they both have the same mechanical structure (blade and housing).
So, IF the motor noise is the same at the same RPM, all you have to do is to drop the RPM from 2450 to 1900 and you will have the exact same air movement and noise.

But, that is a big if!
I don't know if that is the case.
Also, you need to consider another thing. It is possible that the two are identical and only the L version has an additional resistor. This would be your ideal scenaro.
But, it is possible that the motors are different. In which case, reducing the RPM by reducing voltage (fan controler/ resistor) may not reduce the noise to the L version level.

I'm sorry, I am not really answering your question since I don't have the answer.
But, this also serves as a bump!

Hey dont worry about it youre doing an awesome job!!

That would be fortunate if all the L had was an extra resistor though.

*Sigh* i guess ill just wait until everything is in stock lol. Unless someone posts other wise.

anyone know if they are the same fan but an extra resistor on the low speed one? if they are i'd rather get the medium one and turn it douwn with a fan controller cuase then you could always turn it back up for gaming/overclocking
