JLAB looking to hire two particle accelerator operators. This is a great opportunity for nuclear operators and other high tech military personnel exiting from active service.

All of us current operators are feeling a bit jilted, the payscale is now far higher than it was when we were all hired. :| This is good news for potential new hires. :)

And to those who have submitted their resumes in the past, sorry you'll have to do so again.

From an email sent to my manager from a coworker of mine:
Noel,

Can I quit then interview for the new operator position?

The new operator position pays more than I receive after
4.5 years of Operator experience with a B.S. in Physics
and Thesis short of a M.S. in Physics.

We're all asking him the same question. I don't think we're going to get anywhere with it though.

I was a research assistant at my university while in grad school and we were affiliated with JLab. We designed and built one of the beamline polarimeters back when the facility was still named CEBAF (Continuous Electron Beam Accelerator Facility). It's a really nice facility. A bit too close to Washington DC for my tastes (too many politicians) but the facility itself is top notch.

Oh man... that would be awesome...

Since you are in the physics field, how do you pronounce Calabi-Yau?

Beats me man. I am more into the instrumentation and controls and networking stuff when I'm not operating the machine.

Has anyone applied yet?

Wow. Not that I'm a part of that field at all, but what an awesome job. Is it as interesting as it sounds, or is it just cool to a complete layman?

It depends on the day Siva. Just like any other job there are good ones and bad ones. I do have to say that there is just so much going on here, there is always something new to learn and/or get involved with. If you like physics, you're covered. Same with EE, CS, and CE.
