Want to OC my system

Hi,

I have a new system (thanks to all who helped me) and I want to start OC'ing it. I want to start with a modest OC plus sort out my RAM timings as the MB has picked the wrong speeds for the RAM. Here is my system:

Corsair Memory TWIN2X2048-6400C4 2x1GB 240-Pin DIMM XMS2-6400 CL4
Corsair Memory 620 Watt, ATX, EPS12V, PS/2,
Artic Pro 7 CPU cooler
E6400 CPU
Asus P5W DH. (1707 BIOS)

Currently the system idles at 17 C and under load it is 23 C.

Can someone please advise what I need to change to obtain a modest OC plus recommend a good OC guide? Also, what software will I need to check on system statbility?

Great place to start. Tells you all the tertiary settings that need to be set.

Your temps look good, is that measured with Intel's TaT, or Coretemp? If so i suggest you go straight to a 400 or 401 front side bus for a 3.2GHz final speed. Most don't have a problem hitting that speed, and keeping it cool with an upgraded HSF. Your ram will not be overclocked at that speed either. Try Vcore at 1.375, memory at 2.1V and run the memory at a 1:1 ratio with FSB (not sure how to set these on your board, but yoxxy's guide should help there)

Test stability with Orthos, it's a great quick'n'dirty stabilty tester. (well maybe not quick).

If you're stable there, you can either try for faster (which is unlikely with your ram) or try dropping voltages to run cooler and with less power consumption.

*edit* just noticed your ram is Cas4, it may go higher than a 400FSB. I still doubt it though. My Cas5 corsair ram runs great at 4-4-4-12 @400FSB, but refuses to go higher with even looser timings.

That looks like a very solid system and should be VERY fast at a nice 1:1 OC. My guess is you should be able to get to about 425mhz or so on the FSB using that board.
