Hi
I have a dell computer my wife uses and of course there are no adjustments to O/C the proc. And I was wondering if I bought a Slocket and used a flipchip could I overclock it then,I think some of the slocket adapters have fsb and maybe even Volt jumpers on them.If this is possible and you could recommend a slocket for the job I would be graetful.

So first I need to know if this is possible to do and what is the best slocket for the job....
Thanks
PS right know it has a P3 500 Slot 1 proc. Charlie

Not gonna happen, in order to o/c a dell, you must buy a new motherboard, and in turn, most dell power sources only work with dell motherboards, so u would probably have to get one of those...i know from experience...Mine was newer(oct 2000), so imnot real sure about the older ones.

Actually there is a program that you can overclock some dells with. It raises the FSB in windows. I tried looking for it but was unsuccesful :( Maybe someone else knows what I'm talking about?

Well, if you cant from the bios, and softfsb wont work, you most likely wont be able to.

Even if the processor is capable of oc/ing decently, the mobo Dell uses certainly won't be.

A new processor should go in there just fine, as long as the motherboard supports it.

I am too late to the party but here is the program CPUFSB that works on Dell XPS Txxx.
Your PLL-IC is Cypress/IC-Works W149. Choose it in the program.
It has only two overclocking fsb settings : 103 and 124.

I bet your p3-500 will work easily at 103 fsb. Use slocket and p3-750, overclock to 930 (fsb124).

EDIT: CPUFSB and SoftFSB are two different programs BTW.

Dont know why ppl keep saying 'you cant overclock Dell mobos'.
I had no problems overclocking Dell systems.

I had my Dimension XPS D233 o/ced to 300MHz for a long time, using a combination of SoftFSB and adjusting the multplier, since it was one of the first PIIs, and not multipier locked :)

In my opinion, the only reason to buy a stock computer from a company like Dell is because of the warranty. If you overclock that computer, you will have voided it.
