Hi all, I want to migrate a HDD from a Gigabyte Brix to an Intel NUC. The base OS is Win7. I'm aware moving a hard drive directly from one machine w/specific HW and drives to a completely different one usually does not work and causes issues with drivers and such.

Has there been any new software that resolves the above situation? A search revealed a tool called Acronis Universal Restore. Thanks.

Sometimes you may get a fatal error, so that takes some troubleshooting.

The second problem was on the recipient machine, there were only USB 3.0 ports, and since Windows 7 does not come with those drivers, I had no keyboard/mouse control. Someone showed me a way to add the drivers to the preexisting Windows install, and then when Windows started up (has to be the first boot after sysprep) it found the appropriate drivers.

Yeah, that's what I had to do the first time as well when the NUC's first started coming with the USB 3.0 port. Pretty lame that you have to dig through forums to find secret tricks to get it working!

Benefits of being part of the #pcmasterrace I guess! But it could be worse- I'm glad I didn't have to reinstall everything from scratch.
