I want to update my chipset driver and my Jmicron controller driver for my mobo in hopes that this will lead to less hard drive clicking (it's not hard drive failing, it's the problem I've reported here). My mobo is an Abit IP35 Pro, and I am using Vista 64.
The drivers on the manufacturer's website haven't been updated since like June 2007, but I'm pretty sure there are newer ones out. So my questions are basically these:
1.) I want to update the intel chipset driver, but I can't find a specific "chipset driver" file on intel's website. Is it basically the "INF Update Utility" on this page? It's version 9.0.0.1008. I don't know how to check which chipset driver I have installed to compare, but the last one I got was from Abit's website and the most recent they have is "INTEL Chipset Driver 8.3.0.1011." EDIT: I found under "System Devices" in Device Manager a bunch of Intel devices that have drivers dating from 2/2007. Is it safe to run the "INF Update Utility" to update these drivers?
2.) I want to update the JMicron Controller driver. I have 1.17.19.2 installed, and there's a 1.38 on their website. No harm in reinstalling that, right? But I notice in Device Manager that I also have a "Microsoft iSCSI Initiator" storage controller. That's not going to have anything to do with SATA drives, right? Is that something I should update?
3.) Uh...to update these drivers, I'll just basically run the files, right? Anything to be aware of in particular?
Any guidance is greatly appreciated! Thanks guys.
