Want to make "Standby" appear in shutdown menu in Wind98SE

I have a 1ghz Abit KT7a-RAID system (details in the sig) that has been working great so far, except that "standby" is not displayed as an option in the shutdown menu.

Does anyone know how to make this option appear?

I know I have ACPI installed (it appears in the device manager) so that's not the source of the problem.

Thanks

Mkae sure that you have power management enabled in your bios. I do not beleive that ACPI is the same as the power management option I am referring to. Once you have it enabled, it might show up. If not you may have to run the Add Hardware wizard and hope it picks it up. You might also check the power options in Control Panel. I once had to enable power management and delete the PLug and Play bios from Device Manger. I rebooted, Win98 redetected everything in the machine and fixed the power management problem. Just a thought.

According to what I have read, APM (Advanced Power Management) and ACPI are different standards, and you should enable one or the other but not both (the concern being that it would cause conflicts).

At any rate, I tried turning APM on and rebooting, but that had no effect. Maybe I'll try deleting the PnP BIOS like you suggested.

rockethead - I would like to read about that. Can you give me a link?

I'm afraid that I don't have a link at hand. Try doing a google search that includes ACPI and APM and you might come across that information.

I did not get the information from a really authoratative source, but I have encountered it in more than one place, for what that's worth.
