my little sister wanted to play the electric guitar so we went out and got a fender strat, a crate gfx65 amp, and the goodies (books, strap, picks, case, extra strings). we spent nearly $800 last Christmas and she's yet to learn how to play a single song! anyhow, i think it was overkill, we could've done with some cheapo stuff to learn with.

tell you little sister I got $10 with her name on it, for all that useless garbage she has lying around





Autoexec, first get a cheap guitar and amp, because you migh end up not using them much. I got a Squire Strat along with a small 15W amp, both used, for about $120. They were a great deal and turned out to be a great combo, as I have yet to out grow them.

I would also recomment you stay away from tabs and learn to read and play actual notes. Lessons are expensive, but 1/week won't hurt, its hard learning on your own.
