So its late and im labeling a dvd and not paying attention i dipped the data surface of the dvd into thermal paste and put it in my philips dvd player.

I doesnt work so well now.

So just a tip for everyone thermal paste + cpu = good , thermal paste + dvd = bad .

This is by far the dumbest way ive ruined a piece of equipment.

Take the DVD player apart and clean the laser lens and other areas that were affected. Just don't use acetone as a cleaner - it tends to dissolve plastics. Electornic wash - contact cleaner works great, just don't wash away all the factory lubrication.

In what circumstances did you have a "pool" of termal paste on your desk? -_-

i had used a piece of plastic to scrape extra paste off a heatsink

then i set the dvd down on the piece of plastic a few hours later
