1. What YOUR PC will be used for. That means what types of tasks you'll be performing.
Working with RAW files in Nikon Capture NX is the most important task
Watching HDTV (Fusion HDTV Pro).
Will also add a decent graphics card further down the track (when the dust has settled and mid-range can handle Crysis well), but I'll need some variety of discrete card now as it will need to be able to play Colin McRae 2005 with everything maxed at 1600x1200 (my 6800GS@U handles this just fine), and a I play a bit of FarCry and Serious Sam 2 every now and then.
2. What YOUR budget is. A price range is acceptable as long as it's not more than a 20% spread
Don't really want to spend much more than $800 AUD
3. What country YOU will be buying YOUR parts from.
Australia. I'll be buying from this shop, so these are the prices that I care about
http://www.austin.net.au/
4. IF YOU have a brand preference. That means, are you an Intel-Fanboy, AMD-Fanboy, ATI-Fanboy, nVidia-Fanboy, Seagate-Fanboy, WD-Fanboy, etc, etc, etc, you get the picture.
Honestly, I couldn't give a crap
5. If YOU intend on using any of YOUR current parts, and if so, what those parts are.
I'm hoping my 350W Antec TruePower 2 should be fine, at least until I upgrade the graphics card further down the track, if that's sensible (dual 16A 12v rails)?
Will also carry over my monitor, copy of XP, and a soundblaster live! 24-bit.
6. IF YOU have searched and/or read similar threads.
No sir. I'm a unique little flower with unique little needs, and nobody is forced to reply to my request if they don't want to
7. IF YOU plan on overclocking or run the system at default speeds.
Will run it at default speeds initially (currently using a 2.1Ghz tbred-b/1.5GB RAM/6800GS@U/Asus A7V8X, so anything should blow that out of the water), but I'd like a mobo that will give me the option of over clocking further down the track with a fast graphics card and a new PSU.
Cheers folks
