Ok, well if it wasnt a certainty before it is now.............newegg FOREVER.

I bought a WD 2.5tb HDD that arrived DOA (it was a problem people frequently had with this drive) so i set up an RMA with them and noticed that their only option was a return since it was a refurb drive..........great. Not only did I no longer want this drive, I was sure it would come DOA again since none of the drives worked for anyone. Sent it out a few days later, went to check newegg stock to make sure it was still there, it wasnt. So i got on newegg chat and talked to katherine, very nice, and explained my situation not only did she switch me to a refund (which I wasnt supposed to get) she printed me a prepaid UPS label to ship it to them, well i had already shipped it out via USPS, so she told me that she would refund my shipping cost as well. WOW, thats the definition of customer service, she really went above and beyond to make sure i was satasfied. It worked and will always be a loyal customer.

You will not hear any glowing Newegg stories from VirtualLarry.

LOL. So cruel. I don't hate Newegg. I just post when they do something wrong. What's wrong with a little constructive criticism?

Anyways, my most recent Newegg experiences, have been that their house-brand ATX cases (Rosewill), have severe quality-control problems.

My Blackhawk cases, the headphone jack pops out, and won't maintain a stereo connection, and the top HDD dock, doesn't work with SATA 6G SSDs.

My Redbone cases, both had issues. The standoffs took a wrench to install, unlike most other cases where I can use my fingers to install, and a wrench to torq them down the final bit. This one, it took a wrench the entire way.

Also, on one of them (I ordered two), the rear area on the bottom where the side-panel screws in, was bent.

On the other one, the power switch (clear plastic insert) keeps falling right out.

Very shoddy quality-control from Newegg/Rosewill. Keep that in mind when you are considering their cases.

OTOH, my Antec 300 cases have been very solidly built, with no issues.

Rosewill's production stock, is comparable to Antec's "B-stock" (slight defects).

Rosewill is pretty low on the quality and cost ladders, I wouldn't expect too much out of that brand. To me, the main concern with a very large vendor like newegg is how they handle their shipping and returns. And at least in my experience, they are absolutely #1 in both of those categories.

I hope you give them praise when the deserve it too, and not just bitch them out when they mess up.

so you praise them for shipping shoddy? If they handle the shipping proper this wouldn't happen. They buy pallets of 20/PK and which are well packed them break them down into 1/EA - oops i dropped on, 5 second rule - removing from 20/PK to your box.

I bet a retail drive might stand a better chance.

(even refurb drives are packed this way)

Amazon is the only one who IME has come close to Newegg in terms of service. Amazon might actually beat them when it comes to RMA though.

Just be careful with Amazon. They can blacklist your address for abuses deemed by them to be, too many: accounts, returns, pricematches or general disputes. Never heard of Newegg doing this.

At least the status a few years ago was you were no longer able to: place new Amazon orders, receive refunds on gift certificates, or access your digital library.

Agreed. Newegg will always have the little items i need but for processors, video cards, motherboards amazon has it all.

Amazon doesn't stock the Maximus V Gene, they offer it through a 3rd party. I prever to deal directly with Amazon whenever possible.

I've returned dozens of items to Amazon and never had a problem. In fact my last return they told me to keep the item.

But I have bought probably 1000+ items so what's a few dozen returns right?

Amazon doesn't stock as many different PC parts as newegg though.

Amazon really stocks almost nothing. They are a clearing house for other vendors when it comes to computer hardware. I have many items from Newegg and Amazon - and never a problem with either. But, shipment is usually better for me from Newegg because it comes from California. The cheapest ground service is never more than 3 days. Amazon comes from the East of me, and it takes a few days longer.

I just wish more vendors would allow the option of USPS Priority Mail. For me, that beats the heck out of UPS.

AS for RMAs - been getting stuff for nigh on to 20 years, and never had to RMA anything.

While a few may have slipped thru the cracks the vast majority of those banned deserved it.

I don't disagree. I just wanted to illustrate how much different Newegg is from Amazon. Amazon isn't a place for enthusiasts to try out new computer hardware without consequences, as they are sometimes want to do.

Though I can count on one hand any returns to both Amazon and Newegg combined, after hundreds of sales in more than a decade. :)
