he doesn't sound delusional or anything, it's not like he can't go without it. he makes it to thanksgiving dinner and such without a problem, and eats other things on occaision. like gopunk said, if he's happy go for it. he does sound pretty cheery and grounded. i bet he's a lot happier than most people with his simple life, he doesn't need anything else.

<< must be nice to be able to drop like $10 a day for phood :( >>

he's also got a cleaning lady :)

it's not so much he can't afford anything else, it's just he chooses not to.

This isn't just about his poor choice of rations. Look at the big picture. Why does he order pizza? Because cooking requires going out and shopping for food. Why does he have it delivered? Because otherwise, he would be stuck going out to pick it up himself, which he hasn't done once in 5 years, even though the store is just a 5-minute walk from his house (gotta love the internet). Why does he pay with a cheque? Because paying with cash requires going out to a bank or ATM to pick it up.

So here we have a 50-year-old man who is divorced and rarely sees his only son. He spends his entire day at home watching TV, which is also why he doesn't have any friends. He doesn't walk or exercise, because no 210lb man who does can survive on a 2-topping medium pizza a day. Every single day he wakes up, eats some pizza, watches tv, eats some more pizza, watches some more tv, finishes off the pizza and goes to sleep. And you don't find this depressing? Does this sound like the kind of life you'd like to have when you're his age?

Damn...

Sounds good to me ;)

Seriously though, people find happiness in different things. If he's been doing the same routine for years, and seems content, I don't see what the problem is. Not everybody fits into the "standard" definition of happiness.

To each his own.

I agree with those who are saying "If he's happy, good for him". Personally, I've been delivering pizza nearly 10 years, and the saddest thing to me about this story is somebody actually thought it was interesting enough to dedicate print space to it.

I'd like to add another "If he's happy, then it's fine" to the heap. Some people spend millions of dollars trying to find happiness, this guy can do it with a $8 pizza and some diet coke. More power to him. The only food I could eat that often is roasted turkey.

happiness is in the mind, and how bad your situation is completely on how your perspective on it is based. he doesn't see his lack of friends, or he merely doesn't care. he doesn't care about his physical looks, he's content with being healthy (healthy as defined by no serious health conditions). philosophers have always said you can find happiness with nothing more than rags to wear.

lets put this in a better perspective. many members of this forum are completely happy with their lives, but how might other people observe their behavior? "wow, that guy plays computer games all day, he should really go out and excercise or socialize or something... wow he really loves his computer, what a geek. man i can't believe he browses a computer forum at 4am, that's just unhealthy, how depressing it must be. i'm gonna go home and f**k my girlfriend now."

Who knows what this guy's history is... Maybe he's (figuratively) shell shocked, and this is his coping mechanism. There are far worse and more destructive lifestyles.

I vote this too.

that sounds like my life. i love pizza. but dominos everyday? they are not the best. try roundtable pizza pal! and why only 1 medium? get 2!

this guy has probs though because he won't even drink the non diet cokes they accidentally gave him. what does he think will happen? and he didn't throw them out though either. so he has some weird ocd or something. he has too much "routine" with specific times to eat and what amount and how he pays etc.

He?s eccentric, but that doesn?t mean anything. I think that if he is happy with the way he is then good for him. I wish I had his lifestyle, but I can't afford it.

<< a retired advertising director, >>

This, I think explains it; I used to work in advertising and some guys can really get completely burned out with the world.

This guy sounds like a friend I have in L.A.; a retired corporate lawyer who at one time worked for Playboy for a number of years. This guy had everything, the lifestyle, the connections; his father (now passed away) was an executive producer for Paramount who made a lot of movies you guys have seen, his brother is very, very successful in the L.A. music industry. He basically did the same thing though. Got fed up with big business lawyering and dropped out. He's perfectly content to sit around all day watching TV, betting the sports book, and ordering take out. He still goes to the Playboy mansion for some of the parties though. :)

Quirky, but no danger to others... live & let live.

Not as much fun as that guy who was going to live inside on survive only by ordering off the Internet :)
