Which wireless router should I get. There are about 4 different wireless G routers it seems with all different prices. This is just going to be for the home. Should the cheapest wireless G router do the job? And I do game. Is my gaming going to be affected?

What range and speed are you looking for. A cheap brand name router like the WRT54G would work fine but it will not give the range and performance of high end routers. Cheaper routers may also work but may sacrifice stability.

Enough range to cover the whole house. Its just a two story cape if that helps.

I still recommend the Linksys WRT54G. It is reliable with extra features with 3rd party firmware you can try. It is available of under $40 dollars or sell with hot deals. I like Dlink like the DI-624 but not 3rd party upgrade firmware as far as I know.

Very cheep cheap routers run the risk of stability. What routers are you considering?

If you want a router that will cover the entire house then get this...

http://www.dlink.com/products/?sec=0&pid=487

It will cost you an arm and a leg to get the router and one wireless networking card but the range is well worth it...

I myself have the D-Link DGL-4300

http://games.dlink.com/products/?pid=370&#DGL-4300

This wirelss router prioritizes the games to run at a higher priority then downloading, uploading, surfing, etc. I know all other routers can do that as well but this comes pre-configured so I'm just lazy ^_^ Also the internet at the house I am at right now is REALLY REALLY BAD... I put this router in place of a Linksys 4 port wired router and the D-Link gaming router has been able to hold a MUCH more stable connection... with the linksys I got like disconnects from WoW every 5 minutes... now with the D-Link I get them once or twice a day now... Now bad I say ;-)

Is the Draft N that much better then previous MIMO routers, or is it a more standardized version of the old stuff. Are there any good reviews up.

Anyway, if you can afford Draft N then go for it but all hardware needs to be Draft N to truly benefit.
I recommend trying out cheaper routers from a store like Best Buy first as you can always exchange them for a better model if you have problems.

Linksys WRT54GS - I've found it to be even better than the WRT54G. Have two of these currently running at different sites with excellent reliability.

I've had very good luck with D-Link Di-524 routers. Unlike most people I've had terrible luck with every Linksys router I've tried (including the WRT54G and WRT54GC). I've also had good luck with Microsoft Wi-Fi products but they don't make them anymore.

I'll second MS's wifi products. Their wireless cards are superb! (suprisingly) I think I had a 524 before, it was okay, but I prefer the WRT54GS.

I too have had very good success with the DLink 524 Router coupled with the DWL-G630 Cardbus Adapter and the DWL-G120 and DWL-122 USB adatpers. They were esay to set up and have been very reliable. I recently set up a Belkin F5D 7320-4 Wireless Router for a friend, and wasn't particularly impressed with the Wireless side of the house, but the WAN part was very solid. The wireless connection wasn't reliable over the exact same distance as my DLink. Just my 2 cents worth.

You'll need v4 or earlier in order to use 3rd party firmware. Otherwise get the WRT54GL.
