I really think my xp pro install is bad or at the very least, my copy of IE6 is messed up. I can't download any files from any site. I can get to the sites no problem but no file downloading. I've installed Xp pro on 2 different HD's 2 different times with the same results. I did find out that in IE6 I'm missing iecont.dll,iecontlc.dll and that ieuinit.inf is not available. What are these files? I'm thinking it's my OS. How do I do a clean install of Win 98se on my system?

use fdisk to delete any dos or non-dos(ie if you used NTFS for xp) partitions.
repartition,format then install win98!
 
If you upgraded to XP pro from an upgrade disk, upgrades can cause many registry problems, It is likely that this wiped something out that was required for IE 6.0 to function properly, If you can do a windows update, try re-installing IE 6.0, I've seen this work countless times, this way you can keep XP...YEA!. If you have a full XP installation cd, wipe out your hard drive partions and Install XP by itself, this will get rid of those pain in the but win98 problems(all of them).
