Want to get started in ping pong/table tennis

I've played a little casually in the past. Back in junior high and high school I used to play with my mom sometimes who used to play on table tennis teams. Of course it was just practice rallying. I've played with friends for fun too. Yea, I have a table at home, but cheap@$$ paddles.

I've played a few times for fun with people at our school gym, and so I'm wondering how I can get started by getting a decent paddle.

I hold it the western style (not penhold grip), and I'm looking for something of good value. It's kinda like how I have a $65 bowling ball that's not great, but at least it allows me something to practice with so I can work on consistency.

Any suggestions for ping pong paddles?

I have a killer serve in ping pong 😉

I like the more padded ones because it gives me better control for short balls and I can put spin on the ball easier and have it just fall over the net.

I just bought something decent. It's enough to start out with and check if you want to really spend the time to improve, IMO.

I've always used Butterflies, but mine have always had the traditional grip with the extra extension that you can wrap your index & thumb around.

When I was in China on the All-American Ping Pong team, I just loved playing ping-pong with my Flexolite ping pong paddle.
