Want to get my father-in-law wireless

He really doesnt care as much as I do about speed, I just want him to be able to take his laptop around the house. I LOVE my WRT54GS's, but I wonder if I should just buy him Pre-N tech or not..

Any thoughts?

pre-n is just that 'pre' there is no guarantee that it will be compatible with -n anyway (I'll bet not), if he needs the range/speed, maybe, but I'm willing to bet he needs reliablility, and the best way for you to provide that is to deal with a known quantity -- that is the WRT54G

ok cool thanks

Careful about Linksys WRT54G, it became a legend up to v4. The newest version has the same color plastic box but it seems to be lacking in performance (No more open Source Firmware). If it is WRT54G, v5 do not bother unless it is particularly inexpensive.

MIMO can be a solution if it functionally needed (I.e. heavy LAN transfer through Wireless is used).

Otherwise there are sets of 108 Mb/sec. Wireless Routers and Card buses on sales for less then $50.

Wireless What Should I Get?
