2 8800GTs in SLI mode is all the upgrade i see myself doing right now. The problem is is that my favourite computer store here in Oshawa told me that my current motherboard which is an Asus A8N-SLI Deluxe (nForce4) won't support 2 8800GTs in SLI mode. Is this true or can I go ahead and get them?

Thanks.

Yes it will but there's no need to as you'll be cpu limited.

Note - I'm currently running a single 8800GT SSC on an Asus A8N32-SLI with a X2 4400 oc'd to 2.75 and I'm cpu limited. Will be going Intel C2D this weekend.

People get way too hung up on cpu limitation. That monitor can do 1600x1200, add AA and you will see increases in going SLI.

True but if you're cpu limited, your min fps are gonna take a hit.

Ive got an opteron 170 pc and two core 2 duo e6600 pc's and it DOES matter.

You will see an increase in fps going sli..of course...thats a no brainer.

But you wont make full use of it if you're cpu limited...thats a no brainer too.

Smart move, your 8800GT will love a C2D at 3ghz or more.

I tested a single 8800gt on an opteron at 2.6ghz vs a C2D at 3ghz and you'll get much smoother framerates with the C2D.

ScrewFace,
Nobody is telling you that going to 8800GTs in sli wont improve your framerates, because it will.

i dont argue much on these boards, i tend to avoid it.

But telling someone that building an unbalanced pc setup wont hurt their gaming experience is just plain wrong.

Those are the same people who probably post on the gaming forums claiming stuff like
"man this game stutters like crazy, we need a patch ASAP!"
When its their pcs that are the culprit.

Just look at vendors who sell gaming pc's.
Even the "budget" pc gaming shops sell well rounded systems, and they do it for a reason.

We all want to spend as little $$$$ as possible and get the best bang for our buck.

But its actually cheaper on you in the long run to always build a well rounded system.

Just because you get a few FPS increase due to a better CPU doesn't mean you are cpu limited, it actually means you are balanced so both have benefits...

with a 4800+ there is room for improvement. But you are not cpu limited and will still get great improvement from a better video card setup... especially at higher resolutions...

The question is... what resolution does his 21 inch mointor user. If it is more then 1280x1024 then go ahead and get SLI and enjoy yourself.

And yea that stuff about nForce4 not doing sli on GT is BS
