Want to feel really screwed, look at what they pay in the UK for smartphone contracts

Looks like deals from sketchy resellers, with only 500-1gb of data a month, 300 text messages, and not a whole lot of minutes. Screwed not found.

There's Orange, Vodaphone (TMobile) and O2 deals listed, and you can use the sliders at the to adjust minutes, data, etc...

Some of the others may be big as well, I'm only familiar with a few of the carriers in the UK...

I've not read the link, but trust me when I say if you think UK subscribers are being ripped off then you are deluded. The US market should be your focus, where the real gouging is going on.

Eg: my Android device costs me £40($64)for a whole year of data @ 1Gb per month or $5 per Gb. Screwing not found.

I'm trying to point out that we're getting gouged in the US...

I don't get it. I got as close as I could to my plan w/ an iphone 4, and it's 45 pounds or ~$70 which is what I pay here.

Read DBZ's post, $64/year for data on his G1, 1GB/month.

Yeah I would jump on that plan in an instant if it were available in the US.

One thing I'm noticing in scrolling through this thread is that the people pointing out how they are not screwed are those with multiple lines. I agree for the most part, if you have a need for 3 or 4 lines then you do get a much better deal. People like me who only need one line are the ones really getting screwed.

Don't forget to add 20% VAT to all costs starting this month.

All those prices will include VAT. All UK quoted prices do. I hate it when I'm in the US and the price I see is excluding sales tax. Just show me what I need to pay!

I'd gladly take a huge discount in exchange for somewhat fewer text messages, minutes, and data. I never even come close to reaching any of my caps. I have 1500 shared minutes on my Sprint plan (3 lines). With free nights and weekends starting at 7pm and free calls to any mobile, I probably have a grand total of 100-200 voice minutes per month across all lines. Texting? Maybe 200-300 per line. Data? 300 MB per line, max. I usually have WiFi access and I never use my phone for streaming Pandora or tethering.

I guess if you do use your phone for Pandora or tethering, 1 GB might be kinda tight. Still, I'd happily pay the equivalent of about $40 per line for plans like those. They don't seem horribly restrictive at all.

Verizon has low-end voice and data plans. Much lower than your ideal though.

i pay $205 a month (after work discount) for 5 lines, 4 of which have unlimited data (supposedly throttled after 5gb, but it's never happened to me). 2 of the lines also have 400 txts included.

1500 shared minutes, free tmo-tmo, and free nights/weekends.

One of the new carriers in canada launched a plan with unlimited talk/text/data in canada/us for $30 if you prepay for a year, smoking hot deal.
