I've got vista ultimate 64 bit and want to do a new installation. However, getting a hold of all the windows updates, and newest versions of the software I'd be reinstalling will take me over bandwidth limits I'm working under. I was going to work on it a bit at a time in vmware. I also find the approach appealing, because I can save states of the machine- maybe use one as a hidden ghost partition to go-back, or simply to undo bad installation order of operations.
This way, I can also drag and drop from my current install to the new one- assuring myself nothing was left behind. Then, I'd migrate the image from virtual to physical, and the transition would be complete.
Is there any reason why this is a really bad idea, and I should be doing an install parallel to my current one?
