Want to disable logon password on XP

When i installed XP it automatically made me enter a password at the logon screen, i know what the password is, but i don't really want to have to enter it everytime i log on, no one else uses this computer so i don't need a password. Is there a way i can stop it from asking me for my password? I just want it to log on automatically.
 
WindowsXP MADE you enter a password? You must have created one during setup without realizing it. No biggie. Not rocket science. Just make sure you are logged on as administrator and go to Start>Control Panel>User Accounts. Pick the account you want to modify. Click "Remove my password.". To verify your identity, enter your current password and click the "Remove Password" button. That should take care of it! Cheers!! 😛
 
I don't see the "Remove my password" option anywhere, that was the first place i looked though. Isn't there a command i can run that will do what i want? Setuserpasswords or something maybe?
 
this worked for me, though i suppose you would have to be logged on as the admin:
start -> run -> regedit
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon
Data Type: String Value // Value Name: AutoAdminLogon
Setting for Value Data: [0 = Disabled / 1 = Enabled]

That just means that the user doesn't have to ever change the password. I think there is a way to remove the password in the Control Panel | Users and Groups applet, but I cannot remember for sure.

Are you sure you are logged on as an administrator? If you're logged on as admin, you should be able to remove your password from User Accounts. Hmm, wierd.....

**EDIT- Are you running XP Home or Pro? I dont know if that makes a difference. I dont have as much experience with Pro as I do Home. Does XP Pro use a loggin password regardless, like 98, ME and 2K do? You know like if you leave it blank, you dont have to enter one, just git enter?

Nah it looks like this - I'm pretty sure i'm the admin and everything.

 
What happens when you click Change My Password? Does it just prompt for a new password or does it present you with more options related to your password?

Actually it's labeled "Remove my password" and it does just that. I just tested it on mine cuz I realized I've never actually used it before cuz I don't normally have a password, LOL! But lately I have had a password so Ya, just click it and it asks you for your current password. Enter current PW and click OK and thats it. Then reboot and no more password needed.

Not sure why his doesn't bring it up, tho. Maybe one of the other suggestions will help. TweakUI works good too. I use it and X-Setup. No XP machine should be without them. 🙂
 
I was actually responding to jacktackle, but I've wondered for some time why TweakUI isn't included. I always use it to disable autorun.

In any case, jacktackle, what account has the password you are trying to remove? Administrator? I highly advise against that. In your image you are trying to alter the Administrator account.

He-He, sorry bout that. Actually, from the user control panel, theres nothing wrong with altering the admin account if it is your account and the only account on the computer. Not a whole lot you can do to it except setup a password and forget what you set it to. Not even the case here, tho. 🙂 It wont even let you change it from Admin to Limited. Limited is grayed out. Thats OK, tho. His for some reason wont even bring up a password option in his, wierd.
 
I just checked my account, which is a XP Pro limited user account that is password protected. Logged in as myself, in the User Accounts applet in Control Panel, I have the following:

Change my password
Remove my password
Change my picture
Set up my account to use a .NET Passport

Obviously "Remove my password" would do it.

Are you using the Welcome Screen or not?

I'll go a step further. Uncheck the "user must enter a username and password to access this computer", hit apply, at the promt type in the name of the account you always want to log in as and the password you use for that account.
