HELP

I recently bought a Abit Siluro GF4 MX without the svideo cables, with the understanding that a standard 4 pin s-video would work. When I got it I discovered that the socket on the card was a 9 pin mini din. The manual shows there being a RCA and an S-video plug on the other end of the cable. Ive tried talking to an Abit retailer to see about getting a cable but they dont seem to interested in helping me out. Ive checked to see if its available through a cable supplyer, but Im told it must be proprietary.

Im asking if either somebody knows where I can get a cable for that card? Or if someone knows where I can find the pin out so I can just convert the card to a standard s-video socket.

I appreciate any assistance I can get

Thanks

Standard S-video cable might work. Even though the socket has eight pins, the four pin on the plug should correspond to four of them. The other four is used for composite video and other stuff IIRC.

I tried, but there is a wide plastic pin on the standard plug that the socket on the card wont accomidate, I suppose I could try breaking it out with some pliers.

Thanks

It probably is proprietary - something on the order of ATi's 8500 AIW card. I suppose you would have to order one from Abit - they must have forgotten to package one or something.

I took a standard 4 pin S-video as Jerboy suggested and broke the plastic guide pin out and plugged it in. It seems to work well. The picture quality is pretty good, I dont know what the picture quality was with the origional cable but I suspect it was the same.

Trying to use windows on a regular tv reminded me of my Amiga days. The 15.7hz interlace flicker is to much, I dont know how I tolerated it back then LOL

Not many of the consumer line video cards like the geforce 3 and geforce 4 cards have a great svideo/rca out picture. It is good for use with outputting video to your TV, but I don't try to use it for reading/running any programs. Though I will be using the svideo out on my voodoo 3 3000 card, to run to my lcd screen to go in my car as a mp3 player setup. The text is just almost readable:D

I have to put in a plug for Abit. I just recieved a non automated email responce from one of the tech support people. They are going to send me a cable for free. You have to admire a company that takes care of the small insignificant needs of even the small customers. This adds to my previous good experiances with Abit.

Thumbs UP to Abit :)
