Basically, I'm going to sell my DFI lanparty Expert and Opteron 170.
I would like to buy a new Core 2 Duo set up.

Which processor and what motherboard would you guys recommend?

I'm simply swapping my Muskin XP4000 2GB kit for some 'GeIL 2GB (2x1GB) PC6400 800MHz Ultra Low Latency DDR2 Dual Channel'.

So what do you guys think?
Someone recommended I buy the cheapest Core 2 Duo with 4mb(?) cache.
But the motherboard needs to be top of the line as I'll be overclocking and require something that takes SLI.

Thanks!

If you're gonna need a SLI mobo, the general consensus is that you wait, because the only SLI mobo (Asus P5N32 SLI) that supports C2D is really crappy and problematic. Early E6600 are generally crappy, but week 27 and up are much better.

Well, I have a 7950 GX2.

Do I need an SLI mobo to use SLI on that?
I assume no....
But who knows.

If I dont, then I dont need an SLI mobo. Whats the best non SLI one?

Also How much better is an E6600 over an E6400 considering overclocks?
Does the extra 2mb Cache really help?
