I am looking into installing a Remote Car Starter for my 2003 Toyota Corolla. I'll probably have the dealership install it. I am going to call tomorrow to see what model they install.

Anyone have one in their car? I've been wanting of these for a long time. I'm excited.

Why waste your money with the stealership? Just don't get a cheap one and you'll be ok.

EDIT: I'd ask if its an auto but seeing its a Corolla I see no reason to bother.

Gotta have an automatic.

I have one in my truck. It's great. I would call around for quotes. I have a keyless entry/remote start/alarm for $250 installed. You can get just a keyless entry/remote start for $90 or so and you can install it yourself if you're comfortable with electronics.

I don't think I'd want remote start without an alarm. Seems like a BAD idea to me.

You can install them yourself, but some will not honor the warranty if you do.

You will probably have to provide the installer with an ignition key. They have to put those in so that the car gets the proper signal from the chip in the key to start. Don't let the installer program a single button on the remote to start the car....it makes it too easy to accidentally start the car. Request that two buttons pushed simultaneously and held for ~3 seconds be the method to start it.

Also make sure that whatever kind you get, if the brake pedal is depressed before the key is inserted into the ignition and the steering wheel is unlocked, that the engine will die.

mine is a double push from the same button. I've never accidentally started my truck

FWIW, I have an audiovox alarm/remote start. Been good to me so far. 2 years old.
