Should I go through amazon.jp? I know the shipping will be bad, but is this what you would normally do if you found a foreign artist not available anywhere around here?

The guy's name is Soulja. He's japanese and has a japanese site, but everytime I search soulja I get soulja boy (argh). So aside from him being little-known he also shares names with a really really pervasive rapper and that's why he's really hard to find.

Narrow your search man. For example, look for Soulja [album name] to get rid of the Soulja Boy results.

Looks like the guy has some stuff on the Amazon.com site. You might also check out Play-Asia, they have decent prices on import stuff.

I ordered a couple of uh, "books" from amazon.jp and my shipping was $4. It isn't bad at all.

Where are you? In Los Angeles we have enough of a Japanese population that we have plenty of Japanese book stores, music stores, grocery stores, etc. Even the Chinese music and DVD stores have decent Japanese and Korean selections if the artist is popular enough. The Japanese CDs distributed through Hong Kong (legit) are also less expensive than those coming out of Japan for some reason.

Most of my Ayumi CD collection comes from yearly visits to Taiwan and Japan. That seems to work too.
