AFAIK 3rd gen only came to North America in '93-95 right? It still came out until '97 in Japan?

I'm just wondering how difficult it is to find these cars in decent condition. This is the car I want and I'm already saving.

93-95 is the ones they have here

if you want a 95 in good condition it'll prolly cost you like 23-27k.

It doesnt really matter to me if its any year between 93-95. I'm looking at the canada auto trader and they are all going about 20-26K, with one going for $34.

Remeber those RX-7 engines are like time-bombs, very easy to blow if not tuned properly (even in stock form)... The stock cooling system is notoriously inefficient...

Just keep that in mind...

nothing is perfect, but this car is damned close. it's a shame to what they've done with the rx-8 :(

Whys that? The RX-8 is NOT a replacement for the RX-7. Mazda is working on a next gen RX-7.

The RX-8 is going to rock.

But you won't believe how bad the stock cooling is... a friend of a friend of mine just blew his FD motor when he was backing his car out the garage... wasn't even revving it or anything...

yeah the car is close to perfect performance-wise, but maintaince-wise is another question...

rx7 are very reliable... its when you put turbos in them THEN the cooling is insufficient.....

The prices for this car has gone up ever since that ghey and the curious movie... but yah i've looked up everything about this car since i was planning to buy one. And I don't think anything can come close to the driving pleasure you get when this car is working perfect... unless you go buy yourself a $100k car. :D Maintenance for this car will burn through your wallet so be sure you know what you're getting into. Someone here has an FC maybe you should go talk to him. I don't think you'll find an FD in good condition... you're gonna have to plunk down some money and either get a reman engine or rebuild the one you have.

If you want more info go to the RX-7 Club Forums. Good luck man. :)

silmunks has a FC. Haven't seen him in a while.

Anyway, FDs weren't available without twin turbos here in the US I believe.

hahaha, i'm here... it's nice that i'm remembered for something on this huge board... and it's a 20bt, gotta get the turbo in there... :) oh, and i hung with a stock rx7-tt yesterday, although it was having slight boost problems... not QUITE full boost, but yeah, it was nice :)

anyways, the 3rd gen came out until late 2002 in japan...

the car is not difficult to find in decent condition, but decent condition entails a lot of small or potentially large problems... anything from boost problems from a clogged cat, or low compression on one of the rotors... if you find one, maybe you should see if someone with similar mods can give you a ride in theirs while it's running properly so you can see how much power it's supposed to have... b/c you could drive one around that's not boosting properly, and it'd still feel pretty damn fast.

there's no point in paying 23-27k for a 95, you can find a good condition 94 for 18-19 with a somewhat fresh rebuild done by a reputable shop and all the reliability mods done to it, such as silicon hoses, down pipe, upgraded radiator, etc. As for the 93, you have to do a couple more checks first, as there were a few factory recalls or whatever it's called where they suggest you go back so they'll fix a part of your car for free b/c it was a factory defect.

rotaries are not time bombs, uncared for rotaries are time bombs, but if you don't care for them, who cares!

bcyl - your friend might have blown his motor just pulling out of his garage, but there might have been other things going on too, you can't just say that, you have to say why his engine blew... and yes, the stock cooling is bad, you should upgrade the cooling sys and the hoses if you purchase one... and just b/c rx7's don't have turbos doesn't mean they're no good... I RESENT THAT!!!!! :)

how come every time i get into an rx-type of thread i end up making such long-ass posts??
