want to buy 500 17inch LCD monitors. from who?

i need to buy 500 17inch LCD monitors (not to mention 500 keyboards). at this quantity though, i expect some substantial volume discount/wholesale pricing. where would be the best place to go to get a dirt-cheap per-unit price? i doubt this would be the time for newegg. wholesale distributors like ingram micro? direct from the manufacturer? dell? 🙂

im not too knowledgeable in this area. for example, i called the dstributor Avus and got a quote for $348 each for 500 CTX Brand 17inch LCD monitors. this is cheaper than neweggs price by $20, but without a frame of reference i really have no idea if thats a good volume discount or not. i have no idea how much these monitors are being marked up.

one possibly complicating factor is that i need to place the order for these today or tomorrow. so it may be difficult to establish any of the 'relationships' needed to get good prices

also, i prefer brand name monitors.

yea give dell a Call.

They give crazy discounts on huge volume purchase.

Make sure you talk to someone on the higher chain of command.
 
Run a quick search on manufacturers and contact those that seem to be of decent quality and have the specs that you desire.
In a generic e-mail state what you are looking for (specs & quantity), time frame and indicate the reference price target.
State a deadline for a response (1 week).

Cull the responses, and then contact the best 3-4 with a followup indicating that you are now asking for a best and final quote.


The quantify that you are looking for will have the best price direct from the company, not a vendor.
 
Could this possibly be the government looking for a lower price quote?!

My personal favorite: Future Computing and ask for Dil Parnnu. He's a kick-ass guy and you'll get a volume discount. He can get any brand or model you want. Plus, if you're close to one of their warehouses you'll get 'em delivered for nothing.

When I did corporate IT purchasing at my past 2 jobs he took care of business.
