want to build a linux box

Got an extra computer and want to build a linux box
downloaded mandrake but can't get it to boot from dvd rom
any lideas

Did you change the boot order in the BIOS?

yes I did
Totally zeroed my hard drive and I want to load linux clean install. Any trick to this do I have to format and partion

Try Fedora instead of Mandrake. It is much better.

You could prolly try to boot from floppy and then proceed to install from the DVD. All the floppy boot images and utility to create the floppy image is in the Mandrake DVD.
