Good Idea.

I currently use my (anti) RIAAdar on CDs more simply . . . if it lists for $15-18, I skip it no matter how much it is discounted. Indies generally have a MSRP of $12 or less for a new CD.

Then don't buy it. If the RIAA is gonna be a bunch of nut heads, then we don't need to buy their stuff. Besides, if you listen to RIAA affiliated music, you really need to find some new stuff to listen to. Every single CD I own is either independent, or with a smaller company who is totally unassociated with the RIAA and I've got well over 100 different CD's. So I don't see where you should have a problem with finding new stuff to listen to.

You must be some kid then with a vendetta against the RIAA. Most of us own CD's pre-RIAA lawsuits. You either live in a box or youre all of 10 yrs old and just started listening to music.
 
and make certain that when you go to stores, look at the cd's then talk to the manager or sales person and tell that that you're purchasing only music not affiliated with RIAA, and let the stores start passing the message back.
 
Chances are you have a local radio station that is owned by ClearChannel. They play bands that you've heard of on the news, tv, MTV, or general press. Most likely if you AND your friends have heard of a band and hear it regularly on the radio, it's RIAA. ClearChannel doesn't care much for playing independent music.

Personally I think CC is a bigger threat to music listeners than the RIAA. The RIAA is just protecting their interests; they're just not doing a very sensible job of it.

i'm glad the biggest rock station in austin just broke all ties with clear channel. since that they've been playing MUCH better music.

hate to break it to you but a lot of independent bands blow, sometimes there is a reason that they dont get major record deals.
