hello all,

this morning, i wanted to install my new x800xt PE. i followed the advice given here on the forums but when i tried to restart in safe mode so i can run driverclean, the system would freeze on the screen where it lists the drivers. it would get to file agp440.sys and the computer would just freeze....what should i do? run driverclean in normal mode?

any help would be appreciated thanks.

it is a dell 4600.

stock PSU, 2.66 ghz, 1 gb of RAM, geforce 5200, 2 HDs, 2 opticals....

could the problem have arisen because of the uninstalling of the nvidia drivers?

Driver Cleaner will work in normal mode but I suspect the stuffs you have may be to much for the PSU. If it'll work in normal Mode that is...You already added an Optical and a HD to it right??? and now you need to add power to the Vid card...Pun intended but next you'll be letting us know that it has an Audigy card which needs power as well 😉...How many watts is that PSU and who makes it ? 😉

thanks for the reply led.

i'm getting this hangup but i haven't even installed the new card yet - and lots of ppl on this forum are running the same setup.

so why is it freezing when i try to start in safe mode?

Maybe corrupted Windows setup
Not sure

how long did you wait after that? I know when i do safe mode, I have to wait for a little while after is lists all the drivers it loads....

i waited for about 2 minutes....the busy signal on my computer stopped flashing and the computer went silent.....i'll try it again but wait longer...

if it is corrupted, what can i do about it? should i just run driverclean in normal mode and proceed normally?

thanks.
