Want nslookup to resolve internal network's IP

Punamo

I want to set up the network so that if I issue "nslookup myComputerName" it would resolve to the ip address of myComputerName. Do I have to have some kind of DNS server running in the network in order to do it? I'd imagine if a DNS server is needed, then the DNS server would resolve any names for the machines within the network before directing the request to my router (thus my ISP).

Is there a better way?

Any url's to docs would be appreciated.
