I'm currently running a gig of geil golden dragon as per listed in my sig...in dual channel, they won't go much more over 220FSB with low latencies, and I was wondering if getting some PC4400 memory running 1:1 at a higher FSB (I'd like to hit around 250FSB) with possibly a 2.5 CAS latency will yield a healthy performance boost. I can sell my pair of sticks for probably $200-250 on ebay, and I'm currently looking at 512mb PC4400 geil modules for $152 a pop...$50 price premium over my current memory...think I should go for it?

*edit*
Has anyone had any experience with A-data?
They've got 512mb sticks of cas3 PC4000 for $106 on newegg, but I don't quite trust this brand

512mb sticks on newegg:
Geil pc-4400 cas 3 - $152
A-data pc-4000 cas 3 - $106
Kingmax pc-4000 cas 3 - $122
Mushkin pc-4000 cas 3 - $146
OCZ pc-4000 cas 2.5 - $164
Corsair XMS pc-4400 cas 3 - $247 (BUH?!) (There is out of stock pc-4000 corsair for $158, cas 3)

Geil is looking the best right now, since I should have some headroom to reduce the latency at PC-4000...plus, geil is the only one who supports over 2.8v (3.1v, jeez) under warranty, and my mobo allows up to 2.9v
OCZ is looking like a good second choice
btw, I'm not going from 1 gig to 512mb...I just merely like to buy my sticks seperately, and not in dual channel kits, since I've never had a problem before running two non kit sticks in DC, and it's cheaper this way

I think you should look into the OCZ EB (enhanced bandwidth, not enhanced latency) memory...

they are a bit pricey but even with cas 2.5 and 3, they perform as well as cas 2 bh5 stuff...

i'd really like to try out a pair of these... :)

If you are only looking at clocking your FSB @ 250...then all you need is PC4000. And for that I would recommend Kingston HyperX. I have 2 sticks running in dual channel.....this stuff screams. The timings are 3-8-4-4, but most PC4000 and faster RAM operates at these speeds. Don't be fooled by fancy timings, think MHZ over timings. My RAM blows away (at least in benchmarking) any PC3200 RAM that I've run at 2-5-2-2 (or 2-5-3-2). But, like I said....the max you need is PC4000, it will run well over DDR500, if you ever wanted to push the FSB further past 250.

Best Buy has 512mb Kingston HyperX PC4000 for $99 (124 - 25 rebate). You'll need 2 sticks though for sure.

I've heard very great things about OCZ's new EB line of memory
I'll have to look into them further and see if I can find sticks for $150 or less
Those Hyper X modules for $99 now sound by far the most tempting :)
I'll have to look into those as well
thanks for the input

the reason why I was looking at some PC-4400 and 4200 was because I found that, oddly enough, on newegg it was cheaper than the PC-4000
I figured even with PC-4000 geil sticks I could tighten the timings, since i've had great success with them

Are you getting these for the system in your sig? If so I wouldn't waste your time. There aren't many NF2 boards that I know of that hit 250 fsb anyways. If you get stuck at 220-230 fsb like a lot of NF2 boards, you will just be wasting the ram all while being stuck with higher latencies.

Hmm...I completely forgot to check how high my board could go :X
I went ahead and tried, and couldn't go past 220 :(
I had always assumed it was my RAM...guess not
is there an NF2 board that can typically do around 250?
