Want/Need a new printer!! - laser maybe?

Hey all, I've got this HP C4780 which I've come to hate. It runs out of ink pretty fast, it for whatever reason loses it's network settings a lot so I have to re-hook it up to the PC and reinstall the drivers, and the drivers are pretty shitty. The cartridges jam all the time and it keeps saying "cartridge error" for no apparent reason...so yeah, it sucks.

So I was thinking of getting a new one and realized laser printer are actually pretty affordable now, but I don't know much about them.

I was looking at this one http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...tem=28-113-690

I know the toners roughly $40 to replace but I read you can find them as low as $20 and they print ~ 700 pages before dying. I realize it's monochrome but like 99% of what I print are papers for school or something along those lines, never a photo or anything that really requires color.

Anyone have thoughts/input/advice? I'd appreciate it! thanks

Edit: Come to think of it I wouldn't mind the scanner part...I do use that sometimes. If it's the size of that compact Brother above I wouldn't be worried about it having networking, but much bigger and it'd need to be wireless. Sooo I was looking at this http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=28-113-660

Brother laser printers are awesome. I'm glad I switched from inkjets as it's MUCH cheaper now to print stuff. It's fairly easy to find third party toners on sale for $15-$20 and I've no problems with the non-Brother toners.

For basic printing, I'd suggest the 2270DW. It has wireless and duplex features and it's commonly on sale for $80-$85.

I second this. I have the same printer. It serves me well.

Check the page yields of the cartridges (of any printer, including lasers) before purchase. The manufacturers have grown wise to the idea that laser printers are generally accepted to be better value for money, so there are some cheap and nasty laser printers out there (e.g. toner ten times the price of an average inkjet but only three times the page yield), just like there are cheap and nasty inkjets.

Knowing how much you're likely to print each month is also useful.

I'd cautiously recommend it. Bought it for $78 (pre-tax) on Amazon in July. I don't need/use the wireless, it's plugged in to my router's shared USB port.

It's not the most reliable envelope-feeder and the paper tray is flimsy, but otherwise there's nothing to complain about so far. I use it every weekday.

High-yield TN-450 cartridges it uses are currently $43 on Amazon. I bought 2.

It's good to see that cheapie Brother laser being recommended. I'm buying one for my father for his Xmas present along with an extra toner cartridge, because he prints enough that inkjets get expensive, the wifi will suit him well and he only needs black and white capability. A comperable inkjet costs around $150 and includes a ton of features he doesn't need and won't use.
