Want my computer to be zippier

I want my computer to boot up this fast 😀

Well, i don't expect it to boot up or do things that fast 😛, but i would like to get it to be as fast as i can (I looked into I-ram already, doesn't look too promising, not now anyways).

I've never had a fast computer. For desktop use, things always been the same speed. My computer now is just as slow around the desktop (as in not including games) as it was when i had my 2.4 ghz p4, and even when i had a 750mhz cpu. I've never noticed a speed increase after upgrading computer parts, it's always been as slow as ever (again, not counting gaming, which has always been the main reason i upgraded computer parts anyways). I could buy another 2 gigs of ram, but that would use up all my cash, and it probably still wouldn't be any faster anyways. What can i do? My computer is pretty updated as for hardware (sig). A good start i guess would be to make my startup process a lot faster so i don't have to wait 5 minutes for my computer to start up everytime.

I'm dying to get a 'Zippy' computer though, that sounds nice. Everything now takes forever to load, and it's always been like that even with my old computers, on different OSs. I don't have enough money to upgrade all my computer parts again, but i don't think upgrading would do any good anyway, as it hasn't in the past (everything besides games...how many times must i tell you?!...just kiddin 🙂 ).

That video above would be my dream computer, but I'm skeptical if that video is real or not. Even though, a computer like that is basically what i want, i know i probably can't get my computer to be that fast, but that's what i would like anyways. I'm so tired of having a slow arse computer, gives me a headache everytime i use the computer nowadays.

cliffs:
1.I want my computer to be really fast
2.My computer sucks and has always sucked in everything except for gaming.

Honestly you are expecting too much and getting spoiled with your current speed. I would love the system in your specs but I am happy where I'm at. That video was probably done with a computer using a flash drive or some type of solid state storage. I haven't even seen dual (i.e. RAID) 15k SCSI drives load that fast. Also the video appears to have been edited to be a little "faster". Lower your expectations a bit and be happy with what you have.

That video was booting off the Gigabyte I-Ram. It's a PCI card, with 4 ram slots, that can hold up to 4gb of ram total. It connects through the serial ATA interface. Might allow windows to boot really fast, but you can only fit 4gb on it, and if it loses power long enough for it's backup battery to die..you lose all the data.

Ahh, so it was a solid storage source. I'm still not sold on the I-Ram yet.

If you want better performance all round, get something like Diskeeper. Let it defrag your page file, and automatically resize the MFT on your drives. I found that allowing its automatic defrag service was great, but if your playing a game and it comes on its a bit of a pain.

If you want windows to load quicker, get a 10,000 rpm drive, or 2 of them in RAID setup 🙂

No need to defrag the page file if you setup your system correctly. All my installs have a small, 2GB partition dedicated to the page file. I turn off the page file from all drives other than this one, then I create a static, contiguous 1024MB page file on the dedicated partition. This also has the advantage of keeping the OS drive virtually fragment free.

Actually, my computer boots nearly as fast as the one in the video (I said nearly). I have nothing fancy - 1,5 GB RAM, 2,4 Ghz P4, and a new Maxtor SATA 300GB disc.
If you keep your rig free of unnecessary software, you will boot faster 🙂

Some of the things I noticed immediately- He has nothing running in his system tray. There are no start up programs like firewalls or antivirus. His BIOS has legacy options and auto detection disabled. It also appeared to be a fresh install of windows xp. Keeping the registry small helps speed up boot times too.

I can get a PC to boot that fast. It involves heavy optimizing of the following components:

BIOS
Registry
Startup programs
Windows Services
Drivers
And Top Notch Hardware, he is probably using gigabyte I-RAM. 😉

My Windows 2000 PC shuts down in less than 2 seconds with a 1.4 GHz P3S 512mb RAM and 200GB and 160GB T7k250 on intel i815 chipset.
