WASHINGTON, D.C. ? If it's up to the new U.S. Secretary of Transportation, future highway construction will be funded by toll roads instead of taxes.

Yep, more taxcuts for certain people, more money out of your pocket. What else is new.

Peters faces Senate confirmation before she can assume the new role.

What this means to you: More money out of your pocket to fix potholes and build bridges, if the new transportation secretary has her way.

So I guess there is still hope to keep her hands out of your pockets. Tell your Senator to reject her nomination. :|

I was born & raised in an area where tolls essentially don't exist (Portland, OR area). I had never encountered a toll anything until I moved to the Pittsburgh area. I'm certainly not a fan of tolls, they're annoying.

HOWEVER...

How better do you propose to tax the people who are actually USING the roads?

Is it better for everybody to subsidize users of the interstates via income and fuel taxes - or have people pay according to their level of use of the service.

If you think you aren't going to pay those tolls if you don't use the highways, think again. How do you think goods get to your local storeshelves?
