Want ATi recommendation..

Hello. I'm going to be bulding soon and was wondering to difference between 1800/1900 and XT/XTX, all 4 cards. They seem to have about the same specs clock speed & mem speed wise..

I have a gigabyte 6600GT, and while it was a big big rfs improvement, the picture never seemed quite as clear as what I'd had (had a MX440 or something)

I'm a gamer not a tweeker. Want to build, tweak once and forget. Thanks

if money is no issue, go with the x1900 as it is way more powerful than a 1800. the 1800 was ATI's last generation king, beat out only by the geforce 7800 gtx 512mb edition. the 1900 is ATI's current gen king, tied/beat in a few benchies by the 7900gtx. the x1900 has 48 RoP (look em up, dont feel like explainin hehe) which are gonna help a lot in future games that really take advantage of shaders. so like i said if money is no object get the 1900, if ur lookin to spend less tho grab a 1800, either way you will have a great card on ur hands that you wont be dissapointed with. Course if ya wanted to go the nvidia route get a 7900gt and OC it up to gtx 512 speeds 😉

X1900XT for $420ish or wait for R581 that should have a new quite cooling system , 80nm core , should have a higher clock speed , temp should be lower than x1900xt and it should consume less power

The r581 will probably not be released until a few months from now. Just get the x1900xt, it's almost as fast as the x1900xtx, but cheaper. The x1800xt is a decent card for ~$300, but the x1900xt has about 3x the shading power, so it will significantly outperform the x1800xt in shader-heavy games.

Great, thanks guys.

I was actually thinking about a $300 eVGA 7800GT. The clock speeds looked close to the 7900GT, but it sounds like there is more to it then that. (pixel shaders, etc..)

I can probably go $400+ for the X1900 if it's superior inmore ways than just speed/fps. Does anybody make a bad ATi card? I noticed several names on newegg. HIS, connect3D, Powercolor, Sapphire, Asus. PNY is bad right?

Is the ATI better for DVD picture quality, or is that hard to say?

as far as DVD picture quality goes, they both have been exactly the same since the geforce 2 or so, if i remeber correctly. if ur lookin at a 7800gt just step up to the 7900gt, runs cooler, quiter, consumes less power, has 4 more pixel shaders and one more vertex shader, and can be overclocked to stand failry close to the 7900gtx and the x1900xt. again its really ur call but at this point especially considering the retail prices of both there is NO reason to go with a 7800gt over the 7900gt

HSI my fav brand and some times they use 3rd party Cooling system which are quite and cooler
Powercolor has lifetime warranty and becoming the best ATI Vendor me think
Asus is expensive as always but got a cool customer support
connect3d i don't recommend
I have never tried PNY
Sapphire customer support is crap
