Want a PS3 stick that plays PS2 games

I recently picked up some PS2 fighting games for my PS3 (Soul Calibur 2/3, VF 4, thinking about CvS2, Tekken, etc). While they work fine on the PS3 controller, I used to play these at the arcade on joysticks and that's what I'm used to. I'm new to pads and can't do half the stuff on them that I can on the sticks so I really want to buy a good arcade-style stick for my PS3. Unfortunately, I heard that PS3 sticks work for PS3 games only and will not work for PS2 games played on the PS3 (which I still don't know why). Does anyone know if a good PS3 stick exists that can play both PS2 and PS3 fighting games on a PS3?

I think if you get a USB PS2 game adapter it will allow you to use your PS2 sticks on PS2 games and it might also work with PS3 games. I used the adapter to use my old dual shock controllers when me and my friends want to get in some multiplayer action.

Interesting... just to confirm, did you do this on a PC or on a PS3? If you were able to confirm that this indeed works for PS3 systems playing PS2 games, that would rock!

I can confirm that I have used the USB adapter to play fifa on both my PC and my PS3 (PS2 version since EA has yet to bring the soccer franchise to the PS3).
I have also used it to play 4 player Warhawk.

Ahh... Thanks! I'll look into picking one of those up, then I'll borrow my friend's stick to see if it works.

Don't bother with a cheap adapter, the slightest bit of input lag will ruin any fighting game, get the Pelican PS2 to PS3 adapter, it's been known to be lag free. Also don't bother if you want to play Guitar Hero, I don't think there's any adapter out at the moment that will work with GH1/2 including the Pelican. Not sure about dance mats though.

Good to know. I don't plan on playing Guitar Hero at all. Was just hoping to confirm that a PS2 arcade stick connected to some adapter would work on my PS3 for PS2 fighters.
