I got a small question, i am on tmobile atm and using jailbreaked iphone gen 1 a few month after it launched. I am also using the 6 dollar grandfather data plan for the internet. I am considering getting a new phone and I am wondering what phone would be an improvement over the iphone without breaking the wallet too much. Currently, I am mainly using the phone for ... phone, music, internet and some gaming. I through about memoir but I am worrying if I can get used to a normal phone after using iphone. O and I don;t intend to pay 20 dollar for 3g plan so I will be keepign my 6 dollar plan.

Well, I'd say the G1 (or the myTouch if you're into the whole no keyboard thing) because I love Android and think its superior to the iPhone system, but you'd have to get a 3G plan

Stay away from the Android phones if you want to keep your $6 data, TMo's system recognizes them and swaps you to the $20/$25 plan.

Faced with the exact same choice as you are talking about, I looked at all the options and decided to join the dark side and went with a 3GS on AT&T.

I liked the Samsung I7500 - except that I couldn't find a place that would sell it for under $500. I figure T-Mobile is scanning for the IMEI numbers of the G1 and MyTouch, but the I7500 is probably under their radar despite the Android OS. Same with the Hero - although I saw the I7500 in person when I was in Europe and the screen on the Samsung is beautiful.

I like the Blackberry Tour in concept and it felt nice, but I love the large screen on iPhones and don't do a lot of typing. I had the same problem with the Nokia E71. The Nokia N95 didn't feel like much of an upgrade from an iPhone, and the 96 and 97 are too expensive. There will be a Palm Pre GSM some day... but not now. I've personally never liked WinMo phones - although every release I hope MS will come out with something that appeals to me to add more choices to my list.

Eventually, I couldn't find something that I liked and gave up and got a 3GS and now I just pay the extra $40 or so per month... grudgingly. I will say that 3G takes away some of the pain of the bill every month... but not all of it. :)

So I guess the answer to an iphone upgrade would be... hm.... another iphone unless I want to pay 40 extra per month lol?

I prefer Android to the Apple OS, but if price per month is your biggest concern, I would do anything I could to keep my $6 a month plan.

Me? I'm so cheap that I'll be getting a crummy little Tracfone for calls and using my Netbook for web stuff. Its faster, has a much bigger screen, and it costs the same as most high-end phones. Since I already own it, its sort of a win-win situation.

I didn't mean to say that... I was describing the decision that I made when faced with the same choice and why I chose as I did.

To be honest, if you are happy with the iPhone camera quality and don't need a GPS or compass, then there's not a really good reason to upgrade to a 3GS (or iPhone 3G). I really wanted a GPS and a better camera. Aside from those two things and a barely-noticeable speed boost, the new 3GS and the original iPhone are more or less the same.
