I have an 88 Camry and want just a little bass. I'm thinking of getting one of those Bazooka tube subwoofers, but how would I connect it?

Stock or after market deck?

If it's an aftermarket head unit, then it will have pre-amp outs on the back. Just connect those to whatever amplifier you get.

Two 10" subs in a box in the trunk plus a good mono amp will handle all your Mega Booty Bass needs. Probably way overkill for what you want though.

Go for a single 10" with lower-powered mono amp. Kenwood for both if your budget is tight. :)

Edit - Check Crutchfield to see what'll fit. You might be able to get away with some new 6x9s if your current setup is lacking.

Nothing wrong with a bazooka tube.

I am kinda in the same boat. My car has the premium Mach audio package which consists of 6 speakers + Amp (Unsure of wattage) + CD Changer. Now can I add a bass tube or something basic in my car and hook it up to the stock amp? or do I need to buy a new one?

Do what I did.
Got the following offa ebay.

1x Infinity Perfect 12.1 + Enclosure ---> $110.
1x Infinity Perfect 6.1 speakers ----> $205
1x Infinity 3 way 6x9 speakers ---> $50
1x Alpine 750 watt sub amp -------> 105
1x Alpine 4ch Amp ---------> 120
1x Alpine CDA 7995 cd/mp3 player ---> 300

Spend a bit of money but saved a lot too. Not to mention that the thing rocks like hell.

After you get it, you must drive with all the windows down so everyone else around you can enjoy whatever music you have chosen for them.

Oh sweet jesus no. You didn't just say Jensen, did you? :Q Forget the sub and go buy a real deck. Jensen sucks. Badly. I'd rather use a Discman with a car kit than one of their units. - M4H

I whole-heartedly agree. Jensen blows. I'd take stock over that.

One more questions, are amps absolutely necessary? Could I just buy one boxed sub (unpowered) and just connect it to my headunit? I dont need/want much bass...

HAHAHAHAHH - yes, you're not going to get any bass if you let the heatunit power it. Each line out on your headunit has about 15-20w RMS (not to be confused with the maximum output, but those numbers might be high because you have a crappy headunit). There's no way in hell that's going to power a subwoofer.

That's getting old.

Try building your own subwoofer. PM Viperoni for advice. He'll suggest a Dayton 12" sub from Parts Express. :)

The Sub
The Amp

Total cost for both should be under 300. Around 80 to 100 for the sub and around 100 to 150 for the amp I'm guessing. Add in install (basic) lookin at around 400 probably. It aint gonna be shake the panels off bass, but it will certainly help your low end quite a bit over the stock and not atract attention.

***EDIT***

Sorry, you can get the amp for 100 bucks, plus sub for (I think) 75. 175 bucks, plus install. Pretty good deal for some extra bass really.

Big boxes get old after a while. They take up so much room.
I just put a powered bazooka tube in the wife's cavalier...and she loves it. It's just an 8 incher that i got for like $80 shipped off of ebay. I was amazed at the amount of good bass that came outta that little thing. Guys who spend $500 on their setups wouldn't be impressed, but as cheap and simple as a bazooka is, it's has some nice entry level thump.
