I set up a small LAN (3 machines) for a guy in the tool rental business and I told him I would not charge him if he would run SETI on his machines while they were not doing anything else. He said when the machines were not doing anything he shuts them down so as not to wear out the processor. I told him that I would come over every sat and lubricate the processor so it would not wear out, he said he would think about it.

My dad keeps shutting his down at night despite my pleas that it's better to leave it running and it uses no more power at idle than a couple of light bulbs.

If he agrees I am going to drill a hole in his case and screw in a Zert fitting and label it CPU grease only. I hope he dont talk to anyone that knows anything or I am screwed.

Totally unbelievable. I just started learning about computers in the past year and a half and have since builty them, but this one has to take the cake. Even when I was a know nothing I dont think I would have fallen for this one, but I guess there are those out there that would. I would be afraid that he would think why have you come out when he can grease it himself. ha ha ha ha ha
I think youd get a phone call bout that time.
 
We always used to pull a stunt in Auto Mechanics in high school. We would have a new guy do a lube job on his, or a shop vehicle's car. The last thing we would have him do is grease the muffler bearings. We would point to the clamp, and have him grease it ( with the grease gun ) It was great watching the grease squirt out all over the guy's face 🙂

change to:

After all, you gave him something valued at $150 / hour X 'n' hours of your expertise - he should do more than "think about it".
