anyone think this is possible?
i certainly hope it happens, not just for the fun and possible usefullness of it, but for the sheer fact that it would prove we are learning about the universe. its a highly complicated thing, this universe is... and to be able to start conquering it would be sheer awesomeness. ;)
i hope it works, because that proves that other dimensions exists.. but there are so many theories its crazy, and none of them make any sense unless you have a 5 degrees on the subject.... ugh, not even attempting to understand it lol
i just know it would be awesome, and a BIG BIG leap for mankind.

the law of physics is more or less still a scientific theory... one that has been proven, but we cannot assume we know the laws of the universe
when we've had the ability to begin making such scientific findings... for i dunno.. 400 years, AT MOST...
if you think about it, if there is another dimension, who's to say that light travels differently in that dimension... i think we may be able to claim we know the laws of the universe for our dimension (the 3rd dimension).. but not the 4th or 5th or however many dimensions there are. i just know the idea of the universe having a bowl shape and time being the 4th dimension and everything behaves differently and etc etc... too much to comprehend

We can generate a magnetic field powerful enough to levitate anything... including living animals. I'd love to see what a magnetic field strong enough to rip a passage into another dimension can do. I'd say our molecules would be separated before it actually happened.

Or we could accidentally open a passage to hell....

Where we're going, we won't need eyes to see.

If you create a magnetic field and go into another dimension, how do you know when you return it will be to your dimension? And how do you know that just existing in a dimension where the speed of light is faster wouldn't rip you to shreds?

I'm assuming when they say another dimension, i don't think they mean like another dimension like bizarro world, but accessing another dimension to the 4 dimension (3 spatial and one temporal) we're in now.

Well they say it is a dimension where the laws of physics are completely changed, so I think it would have to be like a bizarro world

From what I understand, current string theory requires at least 11 dimensions.

The articles talk about "slip into another dimension", but what does that mean? A parallel universe? An additional axis only obtainable by strong gravitation?

You should read the novel The Return of Nathan Brazil by the late Jack L. Chalker, for a good explanation of what you should do if you accidentally break reality and we all disappear.
