That said, with Microsoft pushing for Cloud gaming, you'll never be able to play any cloud dependent game after a few short years. So there may be a number of awesome games that use it, but once Microsoft et al want you to purchase the next iteration, the cloud support backend gets turned off. I feel like this could well cause a generation of titles to end up as 'Lost Games' in the same manner as Lost Films.

That's an entirely valid point and as much as I love Steam to manage my games and make purchases, it also worries me that in the future, I could lose my ability to play those titles if something happens to the service.

How the hell is Blood Money in the top 20 and Silent Assassin, an amazing game, it nowhere to be seen!

I absolutely LOVED Skyrim. I was truly engrossed in their world like I've never been before. That being said, #1 of all time? LOL.

What happened to industry-transforming Doom, Quake, HL, Starcraft, Diablo, etc? LOL.

Doom is #43. And StarCraft Brood War is #81, just below Torchlight and above Super Meat Boy. Ugh, how does a crappy side scroller get the list at all. Might as well put Angry Birds on the list too.

How is Dark Souls on a PC gaming top-anything list?

I know there was a PC port but it was one of the most high profile PC port botch jobs in recent memory. I originally tried to play with a keyboard but all of the user interface still showed Xbox prompts.

The nerve!

Meh, It's all subjective to personal taste and age.

I like RPG's so my top 10 would be something like...

1) Civilization 2
2) Planescape Torment
3) Baldur's Gate 2
4) Deus Ex
5) Fallout 2
6) Fallout 1
7) Ultima 7
8) Civilization
9) Unreal Tournament 99
10) Ultima Underworld 2

Probably showing my age a bit...

Games like Skyrim, Dragon Age, Fallout New Vegas, and Mass Effect 2 are very good and may get into my Top 30 but not my top 10.

A "top 10" or "top 100" list will always contain some controversy as some games will get included and others that are equally worthy will not. However, this list is just retarded. Some of those choices are headscratchers.

The original half life is only #61... sad day

And what the fuck is CS:GO even doing on that list, let alone at #37?

Funny list, but did you catch the tope 25 shooters of all time a few months ago?

(mind you, this is a more narrowly defined genre and should be easier to pull off)

25 ) No one lives for ever
24) The New Wolfenstein
23) Swat 4
22) Unreal Tournament
21) Bioshock
20) Mechwarrior online
19) Max Payne 3
18) FEAR
17) Arma 2
16) Natural Selection 2
15) Far Cry 3
14) Counter Strike
13) Battlefield 3
12) Rising Storm
11) Left 4 Dead 2
10) Counter Strike: Global Offensive
9) Battlefield 1942
8)Tribes: Ascend
7) Doom
6) Stalker:Call of Pripyat
5) Borderlands 2
4) Quake 3
3) Planetside 2
2) HL 2
1) TF 2

I know there's some good games on there, but come on.

They've disabled the forum for repairs, they say. I think they just got tired of being made fun of.

I wonder if they'll ever turn it back on.

No kidding. Half Life 1 was a game that caused every other FPS game to be delayed months while they were retooled from Quake clones. :p It was an industry changing title. Every modern cinematic style shooter owes its existence to Half Life.

nobody should take these lists seriously. there's a clear bias towards newer games.

i'm impressed they put deus ex in the top 5 though.

I'm pretty lenient towards these lists and can enjoy them, but this one is the worst top 100 I remember seeing. How did no one mention #45 DayZ?

On that Diablo issue thought - if I were to play Diablo 1, 2 or 3 tday, it'd be 3. Rose-colored glasses - I've tired to play 2 some more and it's not easy for years now.

Though 2 was a lot better for the time. (I haven't played 3 yet but have some ideas from various info/comments).

No Tie Fighter?

Also, say what you will about what it has turned into, but Call of Duty 1 deserves to be on the list somewhere.

One basic thing a top 100 list has to decide is whether it's ranking the games by today's standards or the impact at the time.

And there are various things to measure - was it groundbreaking you're measuring? Pleasure? Where does art fit in? And so on.

Dune II sort of invented RTS, but it's come a long way since - I can't stand to play that.

I wonder if they fired all of their older more expensive employees and hired a bunch of morons.
