Want a dark scary kinda game

I have fo3 and mw2 that's it, I'm looking to get a dark scary kind of game. I played fear before so that's a no go fo this time. I don't know what I should look into getting!!

I've browsed around and it seems like doom and l4d are my only real options, my search game is weak I'll admit that so I'm sure I may have missed something.
Please suggest a good scary game if you can

F.E.A.R. - Excellent FPS and quite a few good scares...very dark and moody
Doom 3 - Decent FPS...can be quite spooky in the beginning but quickly loses steam
Dead Space - Same as Doom 3...good but very repetitive...
Penumbra series - Excellent FPS adventure game...can be very scary...very...
Chronicles of Riddick - Not so much scary as its a dark game. Easily one of the best FPS ever made and one of my personal favs.
Alone in the Dark - Title says it all
Vampire The Masquerade Bloodlines - Vampires. 3rd person. Not really scary, but a excellent dark game
Indigo Prophecy - Action game...watch videos to understand it...one of my favorite games!

Stalker for sure.

Stalker: Shadow of Chernobyl (the original) is supposed to be the most dark and scary. Lots of mods for it if you don't like certain things about it.

Left 4 Dead is awesome but it's not scary at all. Maybe a few moments for the first couple times. And Left 4 Dead 2 pretty much did away with the dark part of it, though the Last Man on Earth mutation did really put you on the edge of your seat.

Metro 2033. It's probably the darkest game I've played. Even gamespot said the darkness in the game was overbearing. It's just endless in the game and it's everywhere. It doesn't interfere with gameplay because you have a flashlight and nightvision but the effect is well done especially when your speeding through the metro tunnels.

Stalker doesn't even compare to it.

metro&
this is as bright as the game gets. It puts the metro in Fallout to shame.

I second Dead Space and STALKER. Also, Resident Evil 4 if you have a controller (the PC version basically requires a controller, right?).

Ohhhh yeahhh...COMPLETELY forgot about Metro 2033...hard to believe considering Ive played it twice...but yeah, definitely play this one, very fun and scary!

metro 2033 looks like it needs a beefy rig to run it. SOrry i should of said it needs to run on my rig in sig at 1280x720

I played re4 on gamecube lol, if I got a re game it would have to be RE5 as I havent even played that yet. I played thief on xbox. I already played fear, after looking into doom thats a no go and chronicles of riddick i played that also

Half Life 2 Ravenholm is creepiest deal I ever played . Doom 3 is solid. Stalker is very creepy and imaginative. I used to see the web stories about Stalker and figured it was about mercenaries etc - but its way more imaginative than that. Stalker is great compromise between realistic fights and phantoms of imagination, supernatural enemies, malignant nature etc. It has zombies like Half Life/Left For Dead but tactics like SWAT teams etc (you will learn to look low turning a corner)

play doom3 BUT play like no more then 30 minutes at a time and read all the content and get into it. The game moves at a slow pace if you let it.

Maybe dead space, i dont know how well the pc port turned out but it was fantastic on the 360, best survival horror game yet imo, puts all other "scary" games to shame.

Silent Hill series (especially the first and the sequel)
Resident Evil series (until RE3 perhaps)
STALKER series (especially the first, more precisely in the underground levels)
Penumbra
Cryostasis
Metro 2033
Bioshock (can be a bit creepy at times, I guess)
DOOM 3
Dead Space
FEAR (original, plus Extraction Point expansion)
Alien Vs. Predator (referring to the original, play the Colonial Marines campaign)
Prey (can be creepy at times as well)
Alone in the Dark

Most were mentioned already, but they were good suggestions.

The best one I ever played was Alien Vs Predator 2.
2nd best was FEAR.
Everything else was far behind. Must recommend you do it late with all the lights turned off. Ideally get 5.1 speakers.

System Shock 2 played in a dark room with headphones is still the gold standard of scary, creepy games imo.

Still one of my favorite games ever, co-op patch made it even more awesome. I'd buy a 100% remake of that game with just modern graphics and networking support.

I thought the original Bioshock was pretty dark-ish, the environment was very immersive and I hated how every time you turned around there was a freakin splicer about to smack you in the face with a lead pipe.

Maybe resident evil 4 for pc if you've never played it. I don't think the controls would be as good on a PC though. I've never played the game but I heard it's creepy.
