Our 2 year anniversary is coming up and I would like to buy her a camera. She has trouble remember past events and sometimes needs to be "jumpstarted"

I'm hoping when ever we / she has a good time and wants to remember she can just take a picture of something that she can remember it by.

I was looking into a Holga 35mm because it seems like it's a camera that you don't need to think about.

Any ideas?

Thanks guys!

holga is not 35mm. It's actually a 120-220mm (medium format). If she doesn't care about focus, exposures, then sure, go for it!

I wouldn't recommend the Holga as a first camera. She's likely going to get annoyed and frustrated with the picture quality. I'd try to find a cheap automatic camera used. It won't be that much more expensive and she'll be a lot happier.

She has a nice canon digital camera I just thought since she likes bright colors she might like the holgas

Ah OK, if you're looking to get her something to play with, then the Holga can be a lot of fun. I don't have any experience with the 35mm camera, but the 110mm one is fun to play with for a while. It takes a lot of unusual and somewhat distorted images. You'll feel a bit like a hipster, but it's sometimes nice to take photos that give you a totally different view of something. I miss working with film.

yeah I want the 35mm for her because it's easier to get the photos developed

Just find her one of the millions of retired Canon 35mm cameras in the EOS class like the EOS 650. Great camera and you can find them for 25.00 or so, often with a cheap lens or two. You might fix her up with a complete outfit for 150.00.

Thanks but she's not looking to get into photography. This is for a cheesy scrap booking thing that we can use to remember events in our lives by.

If you decide you like MF film and want to try a real camera, look into vintage TLR's on eBay. You can get a Minolta or old Zeiss for around $75, and they're fun to use and can take pictures sharp and detailed enough to compare with DSLRs.

They're a pain for ergonomics and sometimes you need a bit of mechanical aptitude to deal with vintage cameras, but they're real cameras with a bit of history and coolness in form.

Will do. Thanks! 75$ doesn't seem like a bad investment. I want to get into developing my own film sometime down the road

Just picked up her first roll of film from walmart. It was $5 just for developing it!

they either raised their prices or you let the people there muck with it

$5 isn't too terribly much more than 35 mm process only, though.

Hmm. I think it was processed as Slide Film and not 120 :\ We'll try another walmart

seems to me you need a scanner.

Yeah I took over to my parent's house last night and their Epson V100 has a backlight for film but turnes out that it's only wide enough for 35mm. I'm taking it to Wolf Camera today to see how much $$$$ they want for it
