Looking for some software to get rid of trojans ect. Seems like I kill some programs and they worm their way back in. Will to pay for an effective removal program.
Also ask yourself how they got there in the first place, and try to plug that hole. If you have a broadband connection, get a cable/DSL router, and install firewall software for a second measure of protection (particularly against stuff getting out from inside). If you need antivirus software, buy some and sweat the details on the setup options, max 'em out. Have it update as frequently as possible, such as daily, so it knows what it should be looking for.
Also, if you have Win2000 Pro or WinXP Pro, set yourself up a regular account that is NOT an Administrator-class account, but rather a Restricted User account, and use it except when you NEED Admin rights. Make sure the Admin password is not a simple one either. Spyware has a rough time trying to install with RU privileges. From within your Restricted User account, you can still exercise a certain measure of Admin power by holding down the Shift key while right-clicking what you want to run, then choose Run As and run it as the system's Administrator.
McAfee Stinger, a limited-scope antivirus tool that hits a selected set of the most common threats. Don't assume you're clean just because Stinger comes up without any detections.
Spybot Search & Destroy, make sure to go to the Online part and have it pick up the latest updates (often acts as if it's frozen, be patient), then do the Immunize and sweep for problems. In the Tools you can see what's in the startup routine too.
