VALENCE N-charge + the new Compaq X1000 centrino notebook, i get about 15 hours of batt life non stop. When I get that combo next month, the laptop will last me 3 days of lecture w/o recharge. It is only $299 for the 10 hour version, that is cheaper than extra battery!

anyone here has one of those? what are ur opinions?

It just a massive battery without the massive profit margins that characterise the OEM batteries.

How hard is it to plug your laptop into a power point when you go to sleep at night? I can understand it if you NEED 10 hrs between charges but I doubt many people are going to be in that situation.

is this really that bad? 6.5 + 2.9 LB on a good laptop backpack is that heavy? my university has very few AC outlets in the lecture rooms :(

I would say its pretty bad, your talking almost 10 lbs, with the books you need to carry as well. However this a pretty good idea, I can see times where this might be useful. However since I get about 3 hours with my Dell 600m and most of my classes at most only last 2 hours I don't think that technology is for me. Thanks for posting it however, it may be something to purchase later down the road.

if i buy the smaller version, 1.9 LB + 6.5 LB compaq widescreen, is that better? how heavy is it in anological term( ie, how many 1L pop equivalent) i heard in university you don't have to bring books lol

In my university, each classroom for the School of Business has seats with 100Mbit Ethernet and an outlet. It is the same for the library, with both types of jacks lined across the walls. Outside in hallways and in the lounges and cafeterias, there is IPSEC-secured wireless access. There are HP LaserJet printers on every floor, including a 50-page per minute monster in the Computer Lab.

Hehe. Battery is irrelevant where I go!

have you tried just adding like a dictionary or something to your laptop and backpack and walking around for a while with it and then add a few notebooks or books and see how heavy it is. if it's not heavy for you then go for it. if it is then don't. i personally got the 600m because of battery life and weight. it came out very well, not quite ibm T40 good but as good as i could afford. carrying around an 8lbs laptop is not for me as i actually carry books around also to classes at my university.

3 lbs is not that much. If you were going on a hiking trip, three pounds would get heavy. Walking 20 minutes to class should be tolerable... ;)
