I haven't had a TV Tuner in any of my systems since I lived in a dorm, but that's a neat idea using it in a lappy. Check this out. It's external so you don't have any committment. People like the idea of being able to use adapters on any system. Check the "Where to buy" section for a list of vendors. 🙂

What a conincidence my dorm (prep school) is just getting wired up or cable in lounges this week, I plan on getting myself a splitter and going to town 🙂
On another note, I have heard of these wintv usb's, but I've also heard that quality is questionable...any others with experience care to lend a hand?

I have an external USB tuner made by pinnacle systems. I used it in the dorms with my laptop. The software that came with it was a little crude. There was a very noticable lag, so I couldn't really play any console games on it. The audio is mono, and must be hooked up externally (doesn't use wav audio over the usb connection) to your line in with a 1/8" connector.
Pinnacle TV USB
Pros: Small, space-saving television on your pc
Image quality is decent (but noticably grainier than traditional TV).
Cheaper than traditional TV

Cons: Audio quality is poor, extra connection is necessary
Kinda ugly looking
LAG!!!
Image quality is not as good as traditional TV.

Oh, one more thing, the record function on my tuner is good, but it does not record direct to mpg (so you need lots of space). I'm not sure if anything actually does record straight to mpg.

Thanks Akira for the information, but I do want something that would be able to console games on ideally...
SO the search continues, and corky-- unfortunately that is for gong FROM the pc TO the tv, I want to go the other way....
Thx for any info in advance
